Taking a little spin on the genre, this woman directed and women oriented western short comes with lots of lens-flare. With Hollywood trying to put more and more representation on the table, feature-length film of this kind would be great. Anyway Laura Dern leads a group women who under their disguises as prostitutes are waiting to avenge bandits who are responsible for some nasty stuffs in the past. Lots of awesome stuffs in here from blood-soaked actions to beautifully capture single-set location of whore house and lovely song one woman is singing before the men arrived. It also doesn't afraid to show the beauty of these women bodies as they lured the men into their beds, violence bursts out and finally feast upon them satisfyingly.

This short film can be watched here: The Good Time Girls
Though primarily known as a costume designer with nine films to her credit, Courtney Hoffman channeled her inner Quintin Tarantino (or some real deep man-hating rage) and wrote and directed this gem. The plot is a bit predictable---but I was all in rooting for the girls, who kick ass at the highest level.
Thanks to Gaby for getting this on my Friends Shorts Watchlist.

Putting women at the forefront as opposed to men in a refreshing subversion of typical genre tropes, The Good Time Girls is a terrific sample of what lies ahead for writer and director Courtney Hoffman, with interesting characters, beautiful cinematography, and excellent performances, especially from the always amazing Laura Dern.

Look... all I'm saying is that we probably shouldn't let dudes direct westerns ever again. More of this, please.

You know how like, ducks imprint on the first person they see or something? I think it happened to me with Laura Dern while I was watching Jurassic Park 5 times a day as a child.
Anyways, my mom looks cool with a gun. -

The Good Time Girls manages to pay tribute to the Westerns of the past, whilst also providing a breath of fresh air to the genre. It’s all on YouTube, so if you have a spare fifteen minutes and you want to see Laura Dern with a gun, I would highly recommend.

Part of Covideodrome: A Quarantine Challenge.
No. 5: a woman-authored Western.
Also 52 films by women 2020: 29/52.I like to at least try and add a unique perspective to the sea of Letterboxd reviews out there, but in this instance I'm helplessly dragged along by the undertow; I, like seemingly everybody else who's reviewed Courtney Hoffman's short, really want this to be a feature. I mean, imagine arguing that it wouldn't make its money back. That would be effectively saying that there are people out there who don't want to see a black-clad Laura Dern blasting cowboys off their horses with a shotgun, and I can't imagine that people so wrong might exist.
Aside from anything else, it might…
