New-to-College Student (2024)

You're a New-to-College or First-Time-in-College (FTIC) student if you have not attended a college or university after a high school or equivalent program. Even if you were enrolled in a dual credit program in high school and then graduated, you are still considered a FTIC student when you enroll at TCC.

How do I apply to TCC?

Complete and submit an application for admission.

You can apply online with ApplyTCC (use Chrome or Firefox for the best experience), or use ApplyTexas as an alternate online applicationmethod.

What's the deadline to apply to TCC?

The admissions application deadline is 7 days before the start of the term. Submit yourapplication at least 7 days before the start of the term.

When will I know if I'm accepted to TCC?

Check your personal email within 24–48 hours.

You will receive emails about your acceptance, instructions on activating your student email, submitting any supporting documentation, and next steps.

If you applied through ApplyTexas, please allow additional time for processing.

Apply for Financial Aid

Apply for financial aid and scholarships as early as possible for the best chance of receiving funds.

After you've applied for admission and been accepted, you'll need to submit your supporting documents.

New Students

Provide the following documentsonly if applicable:

• Evidence of Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination (if new to TCC, under 22 years old, and taking face-to-face courses)
• Residency documentation (determines tuition rate)
• Tuition waivers (visit page for list of programs)

High School/Home School Graduates

Provide the following documentsonly if applicable:

• Official high school transcript(s)
• Official test scores (if available; determines TSI exemption)
• Dual credit transcripts (if dual credit was completed outside of TCC)

High School Equivalency Recipients

• Official State of Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency, or
• Official GED certificate from issuing state

Non-High School Graduate/Non-GED Recipient

• Admission by Individual Approval Form (PDF)Listen

  • Submit to your campus's Admissions and Registrar Office

Success Coaches provide support in completing your application, the registration process, and your transition into college.

Meeting with a Success Coach isrequired for all FTIC students.

With a Success Coach, you will:

• Review FTIC requirements
• Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
• Obtain a TSI Assessment referral
• Create a MyPlan referral (if your major is undecided)
• Take the Online Readiness Assessment (if you’re enrolling in any online courses)

An advisor will let you know which tests you're required to complete before registering for classes.

• Online Readiness Assessment

Meeting with an advisor isrequired for all FTIC students.

When you meet with an advisor, you:

• Review your TSI Assessment placement scores and determine which courses will work best
• Go over your MyPlan results (if you set this up during your Success Coach meeting)
• Schedule your New Student Group Advisem*nt (NSGA)

New Student Group Advisem*nt (NSGA) ensures you are registered for your desired classes. All FTIC students are required to attend NSGA.

During your scheduled NSGA session, you will also register for New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO introduces you to TCC and college studies to ensure you have a successful semester.
